Pflueger Arbor Spinning Reel, 120-Yard/6-Pound

Product Description

Designed to handle todays superlines the Pflueger Arbor Spinning Reels are a new way of thinking about traditional spinning reels. Whether an angler decides to use monofilament fluorocarbon or braided lines the Arbors "large arbor" design is perfectly suited to the unique demands that these lines place on a reel. The "large arbor" design advantage is the combination of the larger spool diameter and the short oscillation stroke.

  • 7 stainless steel ball bearings, 4.3:1 ratio, 10 lb max drag
  • One-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing
  • Lightweight Aluminum construction provides strength of an Aluminum body without the weight
  • Double anodized Aluminum spool
  • Lightweight graphite rotor

Yes, there are snob appeal reels costing 10x as much the Arbor, but I think I'd rather have 10 Pflueger Arbors than one big star reel. The 7430 model with 140 yds. of 10 lb. braid worked great as a fresh water multi-species reel with effortless long cast capability and smooth drag release. The 4.3 to 1 retrieve might be a bit slggish for buzzing top waters but felt perfect for slow jigging. Altho designed for braid the Arbor wide diameter narrow height spool design does not magically eliminate loose loop casting knots, and it is necessary to pay attention to tight spool retrieve technique. The reel feels a bit light but after multiple battles with downstream digging chunky catfish and large carp the mechanicals still feel tight and smooth. Got a 7440 to try in salt water next.

I purchased Pflueger Arbor 7430 reel for lure casting in salt water.
I fixed this reel into a custom designed lure casting rod and put a spider wire ultra cast invisi braid 10lb in to one spool and Berkeley Fire line Crystal Braid 8lb into the spare spool.
I have a Daiwa Liberty and Spitfire both 2500 series reels this one beats both of them in casting to further weed beds lines in the bay from the pier.
The retrieval is slow and effective as it has a very low gear ratio to work the lure smoothly and effectively.
Another big plus is that no fatigue to the casting hand because this reel is so light like a feather.
With this setup caught a few fish and yet to take it to a serious lure casting fishing trip.
Also no line bird's nesting or backlash at all given the conditions when other reels will do it for sure.

All in all very pleased with the performance.
