I recently purchased 3 of the 4000 BTL reels based on reviews I had read. 2 for gifts and 1 for myself. I spooled each with 30# Tuffline XP green braid. Tried my luck at surf fishing on Hatteras Island. The reel performed fine. I caught a few dogfish and skates. I had the reel mounted on a 9ft medium action Tica rod(UEHA427402S). The reel cast great,reels smoothly, and the drag feels fine. The only reason that I didn't rate it a 5, is because I've only used it once. Hopefully, it will hold up well with normal maintenance.

This is really good reel for the money!! U no need one 500$ reel to catch fish. this one is enough too catch da big boys!! TRUST ME I CAUGHT ALOT WITH THIS REEL!! All in Maui Hawaii!!

I got this reel when it first came out and have put some hours on it.I fish in the salt water at least 4 times a week so the reel does show some signs of wear and tear but overall it has held up very well. I really like the smooth drag and the spool with the rubber on it so if you are using braid it wont start slipping. Pair it with an Ugly Stick intercoastal and it is a great tool to get the reds on the flats or battle the big drum at the bridges. Great reel and well worth the price. Hope this review helped.
